Our Story<\/h4>

Established in 2021 by Mokona Nabaala, his son Harrison Nabaala, and Neil Anthony, and later joined by his other son, Jackson Riamet Nabaala, as the Founding Executive Director, Enarau Conservation Trust was born out of a deep concern for the escalating degradation of the Maasai Mara landscape. Building on the pioneering restoration achievements of the Centre for Ecosystem Restoration Kenya (CERK), the Trust serves as the governing body for conservation initiatives focused on ecosystem restoration, sustainable land management, and the wellbeing of local communities.<\/p>

Our journey began as a site-based initiative for CERK before transitioning into a registered Community-Based Organization, and finally, a formal Conservation Trust. This evolution reflects our commitment to growth, improved governance, and long-term impact.<\/p>

Our Governance<\/h4>

The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees, providing apex leadership and strategic direction. To ensure rigorous oversight, our Trustees are supported by a Supervisory Board of field experts who provide technical assistance and resource mobilization. Daily operations are led by our Conservation Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, who ensures that our mission, vision, and strategy are effectively implemented.<\/p>

Our Pillars of Impact<\/h4>

Enarau Conservation Trust is anchored by three core pillars:<\/p>

Research:<\/strong> We believe conservation must be grounded in scientific data. Led by our partner organization, CERK, our research activities at Enarau Conservancy include mammal surveys via distance sampling, vegetation assessments using the Land Degradation Surveillance Framework (LDSF), soil sampling, water infiltration studies, and long-term monitoring for invasive species management.<\/p>

Restorative Conservation:<\/strong> To mitigate climate change and protect biodiversity, we focus on restoring lost forest cover and safeguarding existing wildlife habitats. This pillar is supported by our dedicated ranger team, who conduct daily patrols, and our tree nursery\u2014with a 30,000-seedling capacity\u2014which provides essential stock for restoration efforts within and beyond the conservancy.<\/p>

Community Wellbeing:<\/strong> For conservation to thrive, local communities must be central to the process. We have partnered with The Maa Trust to implement critical community-led projects, including water, sanitation, and health (WASH) initiatives, education support, community empowerment programs, and women\u2019s leadership development.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
